   Student to Student

Hello Prospective Students!

I’m Lillian Chien, age 15, and I just finished my junior year at The Davidson Academy. I began attending the Academy when I was 10 and I truly believe that every moment here has been worthwhile.

At the Academy, there is a place for every student, young or old, no matter their interests. We have students creating musical languages, working with lasers and debating like pros. Whatever your interest, no matter how esoteric, you are sure to find someone who can relate. Even if you aren’t sure what your passion is, there is still a place for you to discover it. I was in this latter boat when I first started attending, but everything changed after I joined our school Math Club. I discovered my passion here at this school and the Academy has helped me pursue it. I have met many other student mathematicians that have encouraged me along my path, have had many amazing teachers that have taught me all I know, have competed in a variety of competitions and have taken math classes at the University of Nevada, Reno once I finished the ones offered by the school. This school has helped me discover my passion and follow it as far as I can go. With a multitude of clubs, such as Crafts for Causes and Theories of Identity, there is a place for everyone to find a passion and meet those who share the same dream. And, of course, I’m forgetting to mention the teachers who are willing to discuss topics further with you outside of class or the abundant resources at the University.

The Academy is a school for people who love to learn; it gives them the tools to do so and lets them announce their passions freely to the world. After all, in how many schools can you hear a giant group of students yell, “For SCIENCE!” at the end of a school dance? We are proud of who we are and we can study what we love. If you have a dream, I encourage you to apply. Follow your dreams, wherever they may take you. If you love to learn, then this might just be the place for you!

   Academics

Davidson AcademyThe primary focus of The Davidson Academy’s curriculum is for graduates to leave with a solid, broad-based foundation of knowledge, and the ability to think deeply and learn independently. The Academy organizes each student’s schedule based on his or her abilities, interests and needs. Assessments are used to place students into appropriate classes, and concrete academic benchmarks help the faculty guide students to more advanced classes when ready.

The Academy offers middle school and high school credits, and students can be concurrently enrolled in each depending on their abilities and strengths. All students take core classes in English, math, history and science. Curriculum is accelerated a minimum of three years and is designed with the asynchronous nature of highly gifted students in mind.

Davidson Academy“The decision to attend the Academy was, without a doubt, the single best educational decision my family and I have made throughout my academic career, and the social aspect has been almost as influential. I wouldn’t be the same person I am today if I hadn’t attended, and I am really glad I got the chance. ”
